Cam had been to New York a grand total of five times, and not once had Santana come to Colorado to see him. Too far, she'd told him, or too lame, Colorado Springs was too much like her hometown, and so Cam made a deal. He'd compromise and say Kansas, if she'd fly in to Manhattan. He'd just finished the academy and had a full month's leave before he was meant to head out on his first deployment. So Cam lured her with lies about an address in the city center, 'right on West 9th', and promised her a great view from his house. He'd never given cause for Santana to doubt him, so she told him to book her a flight and she'd be there as long as he took his lazy ass to the airport to pick her up. Cam was more than happy to do that, loading her suitcase into a truck borrowed from his cousin, which he got accused of being a hick for driving, and drove them down to Auburn.
About forty-five minutes into the drive, Santana asked exactly how far from the airport his place was, pointed out they'd been out of city limits for a long time, and Cam just told her he lived in a different town all together. She seemed to put it together then. A half hour later they were turning off the dirt road into his parents' dirt driveway, and Santana was complaining that he'd lied to her, that he was an idiot and the reason why men all sucked, and Cam just laughed. Mail did go to the city center; they had a PO Box. Santana punched him a lot harder than he thought he deserved.
The family loved her; Cam's sister was convinced her brother had brought home a big sister for her, and insisted Santana teach her all the make-up tricks Cam insisted she was too young for. Santana, probably as revenge, obliged the young girl and Cam would have complained if his sister hadn't looked so damn happy about it. Even his brother liked her, and he had a bad habit of disliking most anyone Cam brought home, and she certainly managed to charm the pants off his parents. Then she managed to charm the pants off him as well.
Sex happened kind of by accident. They were in Cam's room, talking, comparing stories, rehashing things they already knew about one another, and the air had an odd shift. They were kissing, feeling each other up, stripping away their clothes and actually about to have sex before Cam really had a chance to understand what was happening. When he did, he stopped, apologised about twenty times and fumbled through about half a dozen reasons why that was a terrible idea; she was a lesbian and he was probably in love with the idea of someone else. He tried to push away but Santana kept him where he was.
"Well you might as well finish what you started, cowboy."
